CE Requirements for Nurses in Michigan

Requirements specific to Nurses in Michigan

Required Courses: 5

  • The Michigan Board of Nursing accepts NursingCE's ANCC accredited courses
  • RNs and LPNs are required to complete 25 contact hours every two years, 2 of which must be in pain and pain symptom management. There is a one-time requirement for training in identifying victims of human trafficking but this does not count towards the 25 hours required for renewal.
  • APRNs must complete their education requirements for the RN license renewal in addition to completing additional education depending on their specialty.

NEW: Beginning June 1, 2022, an applicant for licensure or registration must have completed a minimum of 2 hours of implicit bias training within the 5 years immediately preceding issuance of the license or registration. Additionally, beginning on June 1, 2022, and for every renewal thereafter, an applicant for license or registration renewal must have completed a minimum of 1 hour of implicit bias training for each year of the applicant's license or registration cycle.

*Notice for nurses licensed in Michigan state: On NursingCE.com, The Implicit Bias and Cultural Competency in Healthcare Nursing CE course is not currently able to be used to fulfill the Michigan Implicit Bias CE requirement as it is not an interactive/live module.

Beginning September 1, 2019, individuals seeking a controlled substance license or who dispense controlled substances must complete a one-time requirement on opioids and controlled substance awareness (per MI Board of Pharmacy R 338.3135).
