The purpose of this module is to describe the pathophysiology of pain, reviewing the different types of pain, and outlining the clinical assessment and work-up for a patient presenting with pain, as a means to enhance the nurse and APRN’s understanding of pain and the vital components of a comprehensive pain assessment.
The purpose of this module is to review non-pharmacological pain reduction strategies, as well as the non-opioid pharmacological treatment of pain to enhance the knowledge and clinical skill of the advanced practice nurse providing care to patients with pain.
With the rise of the opioid epidemic that continues to plague the US, APRNs must ascertain an accurate and comprehensive understanding regarding best practices for opioid prescribing for pain management to preserve the integrity of clinical practice, safeguard patient care, and reduce the risk for opioid use disorders. The purpose of this module is to provide a comprehensive overview of best-practice opioid prescribing guidelines, including proper monitoring of patients on long-term opioid therapy, as well as the clinical features of opioid use disorders.
The purpose of this course is to discuss and introduce the basic tenets of safety that must be observed by advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) who are actively treating patients with prescribed controlled substances. This course satisfies the specific requirements for three hours of continuing professional development for advanced nurse prescribers in the states of Florida and New York.
